What is Long COVID?
Long COVID or post-acute COVID-19 Syndrome is when individuals experience persistent symptoms or new health issues that develop after an initial COVID-19 infection. While most people recover from COVID-19 within a few weeks, some individuals continue to experience symptoms for months and now years. People with Long COVID are often referred to as COVID long haulers. Long haulers do not test positive for COVID-19 but still experience new or worsening symptoms months or years after their initial diagnosis.
While more research is needed about Long COVID, surprising statistics are coming out about the impact Long COVID has on millions of Americans. Northeastern University Professor David Lazer shares that people with Long COVID are less likely to be employed by a shocking 16%. As of mid-April 2023, over half a million Americans have stopped working entirely due to Long COVID's harmful impact on their daily lives, according to Katie Bach with the Brookings Institution. As of 2022, Long COVID became a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act, allowing people with Long COVID access to financial assistance from the government.
The symptoms below will give people an understanding of what may happen to a person experiencing the effects of Long COVID.

Currently, there is no "cure" for Long COVID due to how symptoms present themselves uniquely to different people. The cause of these long-term symptoms post covid is also not known. Nevertheless, from a functional neurology point of view, our clinic can address all symptoms of Long COVID with our non-invasive, innovative therapies and cutting-edge diagnostic testing procedures, lessening symptoms' impact on a person's daily life.
Long COVID and POTS
Long COVID is an interesting condition as its symptoms overlap with conditions such as Dysautonomia and Post-concussion Syndrome. According to Dysautonomia International, before the pandemic, 3 million people had POTS, a form of Dysautonomia. Post-covid, these numbers have doubled. Now, over 6 million people who had COVID-19 have been diagnosed with POTS or other Dysautonomia related conditions. At Better Brain & Body, our innovative diagnostic testing procedures will enable a deeper understanding to help you on your path to healing.
